Press Releases
Second Exclusive Cooperative Research Agreement with US Naval Air Warfare Center for LITMUS Defense
16 April 2007
LITMUS, LLC, a leading global technology innovations company, today announces that its majority owned subsidiary, LITMUS Defense, LLC, has entered into a formal agreement with the U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD), for the research and development of carbon nanostructures in advanced composite structures.
The NAWCWD is the premier research and development center within the Naval Air Systems Command, conducting basic and applied research of advanced technologies related to tactical naval air weapons systems.
The market for composite materials for use in aircraft and weapons systems is exponentially growing due to their inherent light-weight, mechanical strength, durability, conductivity, and other mechanical properties. LITMUS and the NAWCWD will investigate novel applications of the incorporation of carbon nanotubes and carbon nanofibers into various composite resin systems to develop further enhanced composite structures. This agreement will utilize this unique expertise and technology for use in both the public and private sectors.
Bill Nevius, President of LITMUS Defense, said: “This partnership brings together the resources and funding of the U.S. Navy, with the cutting-edge technology and innovation of LITMUS Defense. The fact that the U.S. Navy is investing its critical resources in our team for these research and development efforts speaks highly of their confidence in our ability to help define future technology advancements.”
Mark Diggs, Chief Executive Officer of LITMUS, said: “We are delighted to be cooperating with the U.S. Navy under a second such agreement. There is significant potential for nanotechnology in defense applications and this collaboration provides a great opportunity for the development of our nanomaterials and applications. We have the resources, capabilities, and technical expertise to truly transform the results of this research effort for public use.”
