London Stock Exchange and AIM

The London Stock Exchange (“LSE”) is reputed to be one of the oldest trading markets in the world. Born in London coffee houses in the 17th century, it can boast a history of over 300 years.

Situated between New York and Tokyo, the LSE represents Europe’s largest pool of capital, positioning itself to be the global market of choice. Dedicated to the global markets, LSE has extended and diversified its cross border strategies. LSE offers a highly efficient and transparent trading platform for senior equity markets, high quality and real time market information, as well as their efficient and liquid derivatives vehicle.

The London Stock Exchange recognized the need for an alternative trading platform for smaller venture companies and in 1995 established the Alternative Investment Market (AIM). In its short history, the AIM has become the world’s most successful exchange for small quoted companies.

Almost 1400 companies have found their way to the AIM, with over 200 from countries other than the United Kingdom. Since its inception, more than $42 billion has been raised for smaller quoted companies.
